The performance assessment for the introductory unit was an annotated bibliography. The annotated bibliography provided students with the opportunity to explore topics of interest while attempting to analyze sources through various lenses. This assessment was designed to enable students to engage with various media outlets, from newspapers to memes. Assignment
In the introductory paragraphs, students reflected on their identities and how they related to the events. Student M related her life and how she felt when she was in Granada.
Student E’s topic was on the election rhetoric. She compared discriminatory attacks towards Obama during his campaign and presidency with that of Hillary Clinton’s. With the postcolonial lens in mind, she was able to ask questions about the language used and the racial and gender discrimination that allowed politicians and the media to focus on the candidates’ identities versus their qualifications.
